Fully-Guided Bear Hunts
Here at October Ridge we offer fully-guided bear hunts in permit drawing area 27 only. I, Scott Fahey, have been a licensed and insured bear guide since 1998 and a member of the Minnesota Bear Guides Association. I live here year-round and have been hunting here my whole life. I do limit myself to 15 hunters or less as a rule to offer the best hunt possible to each hunter. Historically my hunters have gotten 95% opportunity.
Bears have even been taken each year in many different color phases, ranging from Black, Cinnamon, Sable, Auburn, Chocolate and sometimes mixtures of these.
Area 27 is the drawing area which you can apply for starting in late March or early April; the deadline is usually the 1st Friday in May, and the actual drawing is in the end of May. If you would like me to apply for you and/or your group, I will do this. If you do want to apply and don't want to hunt this year you can apply for area 99 to gain a preference point and increase your chances for next year. Let me know though what your plans are!
Hunting Package Includes:
7 days of hunts during the first 2 weeks of the Season (currently I am only running for the first week of the season). The 7-day window is Sept 1st (Opener)-Sept 8th in 2019.
Actively hit baits ONLY!!!!!
At LEAST 1 active, UNHUNTED bait of your own! (You will only ever hunt on a previously-hunted bait IF that is the best option on that given day)
Baits that are checked and baited daily.
Assisted recovery of the animal.
Portable tree stands with ladders to them and some ground blinds are used (Let me know if you are concerned with heights; safety harnesses are required with ladder stands and can be provided!)
Skinning, for additional charge depending on the type of mount you want. (This includes hanging the bear in our new, walk-in cooler.)
A freezer or cooler to keep your meat and hides in until you are ready to bring them home (included in the skinning fees.)
Lodging is available separately here at October Ridge. We have 8 modern cabins on Island Lake, and charge fall ratesduring Bear Season. Each Cabin comes with a 16ft Lund boat (bring your own motor or motors are available to rent here), so you can fish when you are not hunting if you wish!
